Doing or action words are called verbs.
Examples
write, sit, etc.
Auxiliary Verbs
  • Definition: A verb that determines the tenses, moods, and voices of other verbs. Auxiliary verbs always precede main verbs within a verb phrase.

  • Definition: Action verbs express action by describing the behavior of a person, place or thing. They may describe physical or mental actions.

  • Definition: Linking verbs link the subject of the sentence with the rest of the sentence.
  • Examples: is, could be, has been, etc.
  • Recognizing Verbs
    The best way to identify a verb is to ask the question "Can I do it?"
