Somatosensory

Skin Receptors
Respond to pressure; different somatic sensory receptors of the skin differ in receptive field size and in adaptation rate.
  • Mechanoreceptors
  • Thermoreceptors: where to heat the body
  • Dermatomes
Input from different areas mapped onto spinal cord.
  • Receptor specificity is carried into the spinal cord. So each slice has even more specific function
  • Mirrored in order of function importance in humuculous as well
  • Somatosensory
  • Multiple receptor types
  • Distributed thorughout the body
  • Represetnation in the brain that is topographic
  • Etc.
  • Motor control
    Allows action in the world.
  • Rflex
  • Rhythmic
  • Voluntary
  • How is it controlled?
Motor unit - consists of a motorneuron and the muscle
  • Where? Oculomotor, cranial nerves, spinal cord
  • Innvervation ratio; the higher, the precision
  • Types of tissue
  • Skeletal muscle
  • Cardiac muscle
  • Smooth muscle
  • Muscle tone
    Keeping muscles slightly contracted.
