At the simplest level, success is knowing what you want and then achieving it.
Using this definition, we can have success from achieving short term goals as well as long term goals. In fact, long term success often depends on achieving many short term goals. Therefore, success and feeling of success tend to feed on themselves!
Remember that your rewards are proportional to your contributions to the society. As much as possible, be a creator not a consumer! Create a product or service that is useful to as many people as possible.
Everyone has the same amount of time -- 24 hours in a day. However, some people waste their time and others use it wisely. To achieve anything meaningful, you would need to make your time available. Free up as big a block of time as possible - a minimum of 3 or 4 hours for any serious work. Some ideas:

Get a clear vision of what you would like to achieve with the time and energy you have! See the end product or solution in your mind's eye as clearly as you can. If needed, meditate in a quite place till you see your goal. Know why that goal is important to you. This can be a short term goal that would lead to a longer term bigger goal.
Once you know your goal, plan and execute. If needed, seek help from others. Acquire the resources you need (e.g., references for your term paper; or money for your start up). Use the time and energy you have to work your way to the goal.
