Elizabeth speaks to Darcy's Housekeeper
Elizabeth never took the time to get to know Darcy. Now that she is speaking with someone who's known him since he was 4, Elizabeth might start to like Darcy.
Darcy's Behavior
I am surprised at Darcy's behavior too. But I think he's always been nice. He seems proud because he doesn't like talking to people all the time. And I also think what Elizabeth said greatly effected him. Elizabeth's prejudices.
Ms. Bingley Doing her thing
Ms. Bingley deserved that! She's so rude, and does/says the wrong things at the wrong times. She doesn't get the hint that Darcy doesn't think of her like that
Jane and Elizabeth
I love the sisterhood between Elizabeth and Jane. They aren't sisters - they are more like best friends.
Aw moment
End of the page - AW! 'compassionate silence' while she cried.
Mrs. Bennet's Rambling
I find Mrs. Bennet's rambling very silly. However, it is appropriate
Wickham's Age
Isn't there a big age gap between Lydia and Wickham? Because Wickham was old enough for Elizabeth to be interested.
Lydia's Crazy
Wow, eloping is such a big no no. They would rather want a dead daughter than an eloped one. Lydia is crazy! I don't like her very much. She is very disagreeable and needs a few slaps haha.
Title
I don't understand why Mrs. Bennet's so happy.: 1. Lydia's SIXTEEN and the older girls haven't married yet
2. She ran away!!!
Love Changes Characters
Darcy and Elizabeth's love for one another has changed them SO much! Elizabeth - opinions change because people change and Darcy - should be more welcoming and mannered
Lydia is Disrespectful
Lydia's really annoying me. She is SOOOO disrespectful!
Writing Style
Jane Austen seems to explain the more complex thoughts and explanations n letters
Elizabeth has Changed
Elizabeth had always been hasty to make conclusions on people. But now, she has started to have a better judgement for Darcy's actions.
-------
Jane Austen uses a lot of ----- to not specify a name of a location or person, I wonder why
Get Married Already!
AHH! I really want Darcy and Elizabeth to get together already. How much does it take to love a transformed man?
Lady Catherine's Visit
I don't get it - why does Elizabeth not tell Lady Catherine, and why is Lady Catherine so furious to know?
Lady Catherine's Dramatic Personality Change
Compared to Mr. Darcy, Catherine is 100 times ruder! However, she seemed so nice back at the Collins' house. Once Elizabeth became a threat, her dislike appeared
Go Elizabeth Moment!
Go Elizabeth Moment! That's right! Do what makes you happy and don't try to please others! YEAH. The whole vanity issue - you can see Elizabeth is not vain AT ALL
Darcy Helping Lydia for Elizabeth
This couldn't get any cuter (:
"If you will thank me, let it be for yourself alone. That the wish of giving happiness to you, might add force to the other inducements which led me on, I shall not attempt to deny. But your family owe me nothing. Much as I respect them, I believe, I thought only of you"
Elizabeth Stutters
After asking her if she felt any different about him, Elizabeth doesn't give a fluent reply. That means she likes him A LOT now, so much that she can't even speak with confidence! That means a lot from Elizabeth especially because she is such an outgoing person and all.
Darcy and Elizabeth Explaining their Transformations
There is a distinct difference between Darcy and Elizabeth's way of talking: Elizabeth is more carefree to admit her mistakes while Darcy is very uptight and takes the matter of self reform very seriously.
Darcy's View of Elizabeth at Pemberley
Ever since I read about the Pemberley incident, I wanted to know what Darcy was thinking! Since the novel is written from Elizabeth's point of view, the reader got to witness the shame and awkwardness Elizabeth was going through. I am so glad that Darcy got to explain himself, and I cannot believe that he was still looking for forgiveness. That is so sweet, and it was exactly what I was hoping to read.
Jane Doesn't Believe Elizabeth at First
I totally understand Jane! If I were her, I wouldn't believe Elizabeth at all either. Elizabeth is probably overwhelmed with information that she has been keeping from Jane, I feel her pain too. I just want everything let out and on the table!
Mrs. Bennet's Reaction
LOL I love how Mrs. Bennet doesn't ask Elizabeth if she is sure she will be happy with Darcy and instead exclaims how great it is that she is marrying Darcy. This part is one of my favorite parts of the book, for some reason. It's extraordinarily joyous and Everyone seems to be ecstatic
Mr. Bennet's Husband Comment
At the end of Chapter 17, Mr. Bennet says that he likes Wickham the best. What? I can't tell if he is sarcastic... Clearly Elizabeth has the best husband, and Mr. Bennet likes Elizabeth the best too. So why would he say that? Is he just cracking another one of his jokes? Oh silly Mr. Bennet. Gotta love that guy.
Darcy's explanation of why he didn't show more interest when Jane was sick
I realize now how wrong the story could have turned out... Elizabeth and Darcy were essentially having the same problems Jane and Bingley were. They couldn't show their interest because they didn't think the other was interested! Lucky for them, everything worked out at the end.
Chapter 19
Chapter 19 sounds more like an epilogue, or a "where are they now?" section of a movie. It's a great way to end the book.
